Hepatitis Vaccine

Hepatitis vaccine

Hepatitis A and hepatitis B are both STIs that can be prevented with a vaccine. With either one, infection can rarely become severe and may require hospitalization.

Hepatitis B is also known to become a risk for liver cancer when the infection persists for a long time.

We also offer a hepatitis A and B combination vaccine that can prevent 2 types of hepatitis at the same time.

For those living far away, we offer telephone consultations and a delivery service.

What is the Hepatitis Vaccine?

There are several types of hepatitis, and the transmission routes and symptoms differ for each.

First, understand the characteristics of each and find the vaccine that you should receive.

Hepatitis A Vaccine

Hepatitis A virus is basically spread by fecal–oral transmission (infection occurs when the virus excreted in stool enters the mouth for some reason), and it is also transmitted by licking around the anus.

It is highly infectious and is often transmitted within families or between partners. In places where water and sewage systems are not in place, it can also be transmitted through contaminated water.

Once infected, a person develops acute hepatitis and recovers naturally without it becoming chronic, but it can also become severe, so caution is required.

Recommended For

– Those with multiple sexual partners (including oral sex)

– Those planning to travel overseas

– Those at risk of hepatitis A becoming severe due to an underlying condition such as immunodeficiency, chronic liver disease or diabetes, etc.

★For the prevention of STIs, protection against both type A and type B is recommended.

Hepatitis B Vaccine

Hepatitis B is thought to be transmitted largely through sexual contact, and it is characterized by infectivity so strong that it spreads not only through blood-related routes and sexual contact but also when bodily fluids such as sweat, saliva or tears come into contact with broken skin.

Hepatitis B virus is known to cause both acute hepatitis and chronic hepatitis, and among cases of acute hepatitis it can cause fulminant hepatitis in 1 to 2% of cases, which frequently leads to death if appropriate treatment is not given.

Chronic hepatitis is also known to become a risk for liver cancer.

Both types of hepatitis are known to be highly infectious, but they can be prevented with a vaccine.

Recommended For

– Those with multiple sexual partners (including oral sex)

– Those who have a sexual partner with hepatitis B, or who live in the same household as someone with hepatitis B

– Healthcare workers, etc.

★For the prevention of STIs, protection against both type A and type B is recommended.

Prices

Prices are as follows.

Hepatitis A Vaccine

Product name: Havisure

Cost: 13,000 yen per dose (tax included)

Number of doses: 2 doses

Schedule: First dose, 6 months later

Havisure®, an imported hepatitis A vaccine, is expected to confer immunity from the first dose onward; a second dose is given 6 months later to obtain long-lasting immunity.

Product name: Aimmugen

Cost: 16,500 yen per dose (tax included)*

Number of doses: 3 doses

Schedule: First dose, 1 month later, 6 months later

Aimmugen®, a domestically produced hepatitis A vaccine, is normally given as 3 doses. The third dose is expected to maintain immunity over a longer term.

With inactivated hepatitis A vaccines, immunity is considered to persist for a long period once the specified number of doses has been completed.

*Patients who started the Aimmugen vaccination series at our clinic on or before July 22, 2026 may continue to receive it at the previous price.

Hepatitis B Vaccine

Product name: Bimmugen

Cost: 7,000 yen per dose (tax included)

Number of doses: 3 doses

Schedule: First dose, 1 month later, 6 months later

The acquired immunity has been confirmed to last at least 15 years. The effectiveness decreases as the age at vaccination increases; for example, it is said that about eighty percent of people over 40 acquire immunity through the vaccine.

An antibody test is carried out 1 to 2 months after the 3 doses, and if no antibody response appears, an additional dose may be given.

We offer a “combination vaccine” that allows both the hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccines to be given at the same time.

For hepatitis A and hepatitis B, the vaccination schedule is also the same, and it is less expensive than receiving them separately, so please do consider it.

Hepatitis A and B Combination Vaccine

Product name: Twinrix

Cost: 13,000 yen per dose (tax included)

Number of doses: 3 doses

Schedule: First dose, 1 month later, 6 months later

Antibodies can be expected to persist for approximately 10 to 15 years against both hepatitis A and hepatitis B.
